How to Apply
Please read through the following instructions carefully before applying for the Exchange Student Program:
Step 1. Participate in the NTU Study Abroad Expo and Make Early Preparations
- Maintain good academic performance.
- Language certificates must be acquired within 2 years.
- Students that will have met the graduation requirements in either semester (1st or 2nd) may only apply for exchange/visiting programs held in the first semester of their extension, and may not attend exchange/visiting programs held in any later semester.
Step 2. Attend the Selection Briefing and Read the Guidelines
- Please note, this a translated version from Chinese. If there is any inconsistency or ambiguity between the English version and the Chinese version, the Chinese version shall prevail.
- Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- At least be in their first year of undergraduate/first year of graduate study at NTU; and
- For undergraduate applicants, a GPA of at least 2.44 or a class rank in the top 50% in the 2021/2022AY (as recorded in their class rank certification) is required; and
- Shall meet the language requirement(s) of NTU and the host university.
- Students that have participated in university/college/department-level exchange programs during their current degree and with the following conditions are still eligible to apply, but may only apply to host institutions that are available for a second student exchange:
- Applicants that are about to attend, are currently attending, have completed, or due to exceptional circumstances had terminated an ongoing exchange student program; or
- Applicants that had completed registration, but later renounced their admission.
- Students listed as follows are NOT eligible to apply:
- Students enrolled in an in-service education program; or
- Students that have completed registration for a college/department-level exchange program, and are to depart for their program in Semester 2, 2023/2024AY.
Step 3. Research Your Options
- Information applicable to Semester 2, 2023/2024AY will be updated on a rolling basis.
- Read through the application requirements of partner universities (including but not limited to language requirements, and if they offer your major, etc.).
- Please also refer to the Language Proficiency Levels & Comparison Tables for more information.
Step 4. Online Application
- Online Application Timeline:
- Open: 20 April 2023, 10AM
Close: 26 April 2023, 4PM
Warm reminders:
- Please use your desktop computer or laptop to log into the system.
- The Department/Institute Recommendation Form will be automatically generated by the system after your passport photo, Student ID Card and ID card/passport/Exit & Entry Permit are uploaded.
- For payments receipts, you can either upload the screenshot of ✅ Successful Payment from online/mobile banking, or a transaction slip from a physical ATM.
- Graduate students are advised to discuss with their professors in advance regarding the submission of Letter of Recommendation.
- Each applicant will only have one chance to reupload all insufficient documents (altogether) to the application system.
- Resume and Exchange Study Plan are not open for reupload.
- Applicants that fail to replace all insufficient documents will not be eligible for the internal screening.
Step 5. Check Your Internal Selection Score and Complete the First Listing of Preferences

Close: 22 May 2023, 4PM
- Internal Screening Score
- Applicants may select up to 30 preferences. The online preference listing system can only screen certain basic requirements. As the academic fields of each institution may vary, applicants are advised to research suitable institutions and to only make fully informed choices.
- Applicants that fail to submit their preference list will automatically forfeit their assignment.
- After submitting their list of preferences, applicants may not request to make any changes under any circumstances.
- For non-English speaking countries, applicants must make sure if there are enough English-taught courses to choose from.
Step 6. Check Your Internal Selection Decision and Complete Registration
- Registration Timeline:
- Open: 25 May 2023, 4PM
Close: 30 May 2023, 4PM
- Decisions Release
- Confirmation of Placement: Upload the Student Exchange Confirmation and Parent/Guardian Consent Form and Program fee payment receipt to the system to complete the registration procedure.
- Declinature of Placement: Applicants may decline their admission by submitting their declinature via the system before closure. Applicants will not be able to withdraw their declinature under any circumstances.
- Applicants that fail to complete their registration within the designated time frame will automatically forfeit their admission/placement, and will be eligible for the Second Listing of Preference.
- Applicants that have also been admitted to college/department-level exchange programs for 2nd semester, 2023/2024 AY may only register for 1 of their admitted programs.
- Applicants are advised to keep their own copy of their documents, as submitted documents will not be returned. After registering, students may not withdraw their registration under any circumstances.
Step 7. Second Listing of Preferences (if applicable)
- Second Listing of Preferences Timeline:
- Open: 1 June 2023, 4PM
Close: 6 June 2023, 4PM
- Applicants may participate in the Second Listing of Preferences if they did not submit their First Listing of Preferences, have not been assigned a host institution, forfeited their placement, and have not registered for any college/department-level exchange programs in Semester 2, 2023/2024AY.
- Applicants may select up to 30 preferences and may select any of the institutions they are qualified to apply to, and are not restricted to institutions of their initial category. Other notable remarks are as in the First Listing of Preferences.
- The quota for the first and second listing of preferences are not explicitly related.
- Applicants that fail to submit their preference list will automatically forfeit their assignment.
Step 8. Complete Second Registration Procedure (if applicable)
- Second Registration Timeline:
- Open: 8 June 2023, 4PM
Close: 14 June 2023, 4PM
- Decisions Release
- Confirmation of Placement: Upload the Student Exchange Confirmation and Parent/Guardian Consent Form and Program fee payment receipt to the system to complete the registration procedure.
- Declinature of Placement: See you next semester! 💪
- Applicants that fail to complete their registration within the designated time frame will automatically forfeit their admission/placement.
- Applicants that have also been admitted to college/department-level exchange programs for 2nd semester, 2023/2024 AY may only register for 1 of their admitted programs.
- Applicants are advised to keep their own copy of their documents, as submitted documents will not be returned. After registering, students may not withdraw their registration under any circumstances.
- Remark: The above-mentioned information is only for reference. In case of any dispute, the terms and conditions in the Selection Guidelines shall prevail.
Step 9. Participate in the Pre-departure Info Session and Await Application Notification Emails From the OIA
