Scope
Achieving human well-being and eradicating poverty for all people on earth – while protecting our planet’s climate and biodiversity – will require transformative change. You can be a part of this change. But to help transform the world, we first need to understand the complex global challenges we face and our role in these. Join us at the 2025 International Winter School on Sustainable Development to deepen your understanding of these issues – through creative, interactive, and participatory learning.
Current global sustainability challenges are increasingly complex. Really understanding what’s at stake requires knowledge on systemic interactions and on competing claims by different actors. Science, thus, has a major role to play in informing negotiations and solutions to guide the societal transformations needed to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The purpose of this Winter School is to empower participants to act in the face of these challenges. In this nine-day online course, experienced sustainability researchers will highlight the most important development issues in their respective fields. These presentations will alternate with study time where participants can deepen their knowledge individually or in groups. Moreover, participants will form interdisciplinary teams in which they will co-design solutions to concrete sustainability challenges.
Structure of the Winter School
The course involves the following main elements:
● Preparatory reading/activities prior to the course
● Interactive thematic sessions with presentations by distinguished experts
● Student projects in intercultural and interdisciplinary teams
● Interactive Slack workspace and peer-to-peer exchange and learning
● Presentation and discussion of student projects
● Reflection on learnings for your bachelor/master studies

5 reasons to attend a winter school with Masaryk University
- A different perspective – Winter schools enable students to attend classes that they may not be able to take at their home institution, or at least not from the same perspective.
- Enhance intercultural communication skills – By attending a winter school with a foreign university, students are introduced to students and faculty members from all over the world.
- Preparing students for their future career – The winter organized through Masaryk University strive to prepare students for their future careers at the same time as focusing on the academic. Now more than ever, it is important for students to learn how to virtually collaborate and present ideas.
- Get ahead for next year – The intensive, 3 week winter school with Masaryk University will provide students with 6ECTS (or 3 US credits) allowing students to make up for courses they may have missed, or to help them get ahead for future semesters.
- Cost effective – Masaryk University’s winter and summer schools have always been cost effective in comparison to many other offerings, and the same is true also with our online summer schools. Academic rigor is not lost, however Masaryk University believes educational opportunities should be available to all.

Our brand new “Summer Program” will be launched this summer right before the Olympics. The main focus areas are “Food, Sustainable Cosmetics, and Biotechnologies”.
What we propose is not the usual summer school. We offer an all-encompassing 6 weeks of experience in France offering an integration in the local research & innovation ecosystem (with an internship that could be a strong plus on the students’ CV), French (for beginners and false beginners) classes, courses by top-level experts, field trips and cultural visits.
The program will be 100% given in English, accessible from the 3rd year of bachelor studies and AgroParisTech will offer local accommodation during the length of the program.
We designed this new model as we believe that students traveling to France should have the opportunity to fully connect with local communities (students, researchers…) and also to acquire significant skills that will support their future careers. We also set up this program with a “value for carbon” vision.

<THE 2023 IACOCCA GLOBAL VILLAGE EXPERIENCE>
The Iacocca Global Village Experience continues to evolve as we introduce new and exciting activities, workshops and experiences to our program. Our single page Overview of GV 2023 is attached to this email for your easy reference and distribution. The attached flyer has all the details but I wanted to highlight a few things.
<Application Deadline and Program Fees>
The Selection Board will start reviewing and accepting applicants earlier in order to accommodate possible delays when applying for VISAS. Early application deadline is January 15, 2023 and final deadline is March 19, 2023.
The GV 2023 program is meant to fit the needs of students and professionals of today and tomorrow. We are constantly trying to improve the original program format to make it relevant to today’s world. The best part is that the program fee remains at USD$7,500 again this year, and we are still able to continue to offer each of your candidates the USD$2,000 partner discount for GV 2023.
<Visa>
All applicants that don’t currently have a valid Visa to enter the US will have the option to apply for a B1/B2 Visa or a J-1 Visa. We are recommending candidates to apply for a J-1 Visa because the interview wait time is significantly shorter, less than 2 months for most countries.
<THE 2023 IACOCCA GLOBAL VILLAGE SCHEDULE>
May-June 2023: GV 2023 begins with a flexible virtual experience designed to fit around applicants’ schedules and whether they have professional or student obligations. Villagers will engage with their mentors and Guides, Lehigh University’s faculty and alumni and will begin to work on their leadership plan and create concrete goals that will guide their in-person residency.
June 24-July 29, 2023 – The in-person residency at Lehigh: Villagers will arrive on our campus in June and will begin their journey with the full-time Iacocca Global Village residency on the campus of Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The Villagers will live, work, learn and play together. They will participate in workshops; design challenges; community service; meetings with community leaders, faculty, global professionals, entrepreneurs and mentors. Villagers will also enjoy local site visits and events and trips to New York City and Washington D.C. (Trip destinations are subject to travel and safety restrictions.)
August-November 2023: The GV 2023 Experience will virtually follow the Villagers back home. They will have a chance to develop and launch a leadership project and take it back to their community, company or school. They will stay connected to the Village community with continued virtual programming and full access to Iacocca Institute staff, faculty and alumni network mentorship. This phase is optional for the Villagers.
