5 reasons to attend a winter school with Masaryk University:
- A different perspective – Winter schools enable students to attend classes that they may not be able to take at their home institution, or at least not from the same perspective.
- Enhance intercultural communication skills – By attending a winter school with a foreign university, students are introduced to students and faculty members from all over the world.
- Preparing students for their future career – The winter organized through Masaryk University strive to prepare students for their future careers at the same time as focusing on the academic. Now more than ever, it is important for students to learn how to virtually collaborate and present ideas.
- Get ahead for next year – The intensive, 3 week winter school with Masaryk University will provide students with 6 ECTS (or 3 US credits) allowing students to make up for courses they may have missed, or to help them get ahead for future semesters.
- Cost effective – Masaryk University’s winter and summer schools have always been cost effective in comparison to many other offerings, and the same is true also with our online summer schools. Academic rigor is not lost, however Masaryk University believes educational opportunities should be available to all.

Given the intercultural and interdisciplinary aspect of the summer school, our program is of interest to students from all fields of study, but certainly of special interest to students who concentrate on Europe or study one of the following fields: Austrian Studies, European Studies, Political Science, Law (Arbitration Law, International Law, European Law, Comparative Law), Economics, History, Cultural Studies, International Relations, Interdisciplinary Studies, and/or German.
The four week program offers high-level European studies courses, the Austrian Arbitration Academy, and German language courses.
The European studies courses are held in English and focus on Europe and the European Union. They cover political, economic, and legal transformations, and also historical and cultural aspects of the multiple transitions the continent is currently undergoing. The Austrian Arbitration Academy is designed for students of law and focuses on international dispute settlement by arbitral tribunals.
Students from all over the world have been drawn to the program. The Sommerhochschule has an outstanding academic reputation and offers an excellent opportunity to study German. The campus is located directly on the shore of Lake Wolfgang, one of Austria’s most popular lakes in the picturesque Salzkammergut region.
The campus life creates an environment which encourages intercultural and social exchange and favours mutual understanding within the international student population. GSP 2023 consists of two tracks: Asian Insights and Sustainable Futures (NEW), with 13 courses specially designed to empower students with the necessary knowledge and skills from these emerging disciplines.
Asian Insights
_● According to McKinsey & Company, “Asia has the potential to fuel and shape the next phase of globalisation“.
_● By 2040, when students are in the workforce, Asia will account for about 52% of global GDP in terms of purchasing power parity, which means Asia represents abundant opportunities.
Sustainable Futures
_● According to Forbes, Millennials and Gen Z’ers, who will make up the bulk of consumers in the near future, would spend more on products from a sustainable brand, due to their stronger concern about the environment.
_● Their focus on sustainability would then become opportunities for businesses, making sustainability a valuable knowledge for your students (the future workforce) to pick up on.
